Mom's Notes:
Language Arts: We discussed the meaning of the word "boast." We are reading The Magician's Nephew. Kennedy did a notebooking page on Galileo. Kennedy took the IRI test. Kennedy and Kingston did reading games on ABCya.com. Kennedy is reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Kennedy did some reading assignments on Easy Peasy Homeschool. We learned about Shakespeare and watched A Midsummer Night's Dream. Kennedy read Frindle. "I liked it. I liked that the boy made a new word and his teacher didn't like the new word. At the end, the boy gave his teacher a golden fountain pen." Kingston wrote "I love you" on a card.
Math: Kennedy and Kingston did math games on ABCya.com. Kingston liked the 100s chart game:
Social Studies: We read about Galileo. He was the Father of Modern Physics. We also learned about the queens of England and Shakespeare. Kennedy says, "Mary and Elizabeth's brother was king. When he died Mary became queen. When she died Elizabeth became queen." We watched a video on Amazon Prime about Queen Elizabeth. We watched another Prime video about the continent Europe.
Science: Kingston and Kennedy learned how to make their own rivers through the cracks in the cement and mixed the water with dirt to make varying consistencies of mud. We picked plums and learned to tell the difference between not ready, ripe, and overripe. Kennedy attended the online 3rd grade science class about balanced and unbalanced forces and motion. "We watched a science video with a ping pong ball and a hair dryer. Izzy said there was just one force but Zoe said there was more. Zoe was right. Gravity was pulling the ball down and the air was pushing the ball up. That's why it bobbed up and down. There was also one with a man on a bicycle but he wasn't pedaling so it was an unbalanced force and an accident waiting to happen and a silly person." Kingston learned about force and physics while using marbles on his wooden train tracks. He would shoot one into a line of marbles and the marble at the end of the line would go down the track.
We watched a Mystery Science video about putting out wildfires. Kingston said, "I would get a big bucket of water to dump on the fire." We watched a Mystery Science video about hurricanes and tornadoes. Kingston thinks "a tornado is worse because it can break things up." Kennedy thinks "a hurricane is worse because it can flood everything. Water can move cars and can probably move buildings one piece at a time."
Tech/Trep: Kennedy discussed with her dad ideas for making a table for the printer to sit on. Kingston played some building games on ABCya.com. Here's him building a house:
They also built a fort out of boxes:
