Language Arts: We went to the library and the kids got new books. Kennedy is reading a lot of AtoZ Mysteries. "In the skeleton one it was April Fool's Day." After finishing a book she would tell Mom all about it. Kingston read a book about machines. We are reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe now.
Math: Kingston played with a Chutes and Ladders board reviewing numbers to 100. Kingston counted to 100 and then went above and tried to count to 200. He would add infinity on top, saying, "Infinity one hundred and one" and kept going. Kennedy played on Prodigy. I taught her the trick to remembering odd vs. even so she didn't have to count by twos. Kingston and Kennedy played Tic-Tac-Toe Fractions. I taught them how to get the big number of blocks, then divide into the bottom number of groups, and take the top number of those groups and count the number of blocks. I only helped Kingston a little and they tied most times.
Social Studies: We read about King James in Story of the World. Kennedy, "He didn't remember his mother because he only lived with his tutor in Scotland." We read about Jamestown and John Smith and Pocahontas. Kennedy is reading The Double Life of Pocahontas. We watched a Pocahontas movie. We listened to a youtube song/video about Jamestown.
Science: Mystery Doug taught us why a fish doesn't breathe on land. Both Kingston and Kennedy said, "They open their mouths above water because they want food." Kennedy said she learned "that mud skippers and catfish can walk on land! They can actually do that." Kingston said, "And mudfish can dig mud holes. If you don't have hands to dig, fish use their mouth. He gets mud in his mouth and spits it out. Yuck." We watched Teacher Becky's Third Grade Science about magnets. Then Kingston played with magnets on the whiteboard. We read about Starfish this week in our science story.
Tech/Trep: We built chairs as a family. Kennedy helped Dad assemble and everyone got to help sand and paint. We went to Kids Town and Kennedy and Kingston played with the robot arm. "I got it to lift a block, Mom," says Kingston. They also built with plastic blocks. Then they laid them on the ground like a grid to walk on and practiced "coding." Kingston rolled his cars down a blanket "track" that he made. Kingston built with legos. Kennedy balanced toys.
Elective:
Kennedy tried to teach her brothers to hula dance. Kennedy and Kingston raked leaves into a pile. Kingston made a musical instrument with an empty soda bottle and legos. Kingston drew with chalk. Kennedy and Kingston played with playdough. Kennedy is learning to whittle/carve wood. Kingston taught himself how to start pedaling his bike from standing, without needing a push.
