Language Arts: Kennedy read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Kingston did a sight words page. "Us made a Christmas tree coloring page. There was words on them and me guess the word and used color dabbers to color the words." Kennedy learned what mutilated means. "Mutilated means destroyed." We read Kari, the Elephant together. Kingston played a farm consonant blend game. Kennedy says, "I read Boss of Lunch and Toothless Wonder, which are Junie B. Jones. So in Toothless Wonder one of his classmates says that his uncle Lou is missing his teeth. But he has one so he can still bit an apple. She wonders if she loses all her teeth if she will look like Uncle Lou but she finds out that she doesn't look like that." Kennedy did a practice ISAT ELA Performance task (writing). I was surprised that she got through it without whining.






Math: We did Lego graphing papers. Kennedy says, "I colored a graphing chart and we used Legos to use and do the colors. Black and green tied. Blue and yellow tied. But there's zero red." Kingston played some math games on ABCya and Starfall. We also practiced reading a clock. Kingston says, "I played ABCya games. (There's a game) that has donuts on the top that you have to see how many of those same donuts that you have to get. There's different donuts on the top. You have to get those donuts." Kennedy did an ISAT Math CAT practice test. She did all 31 questions, even if she hasn't yet learned the material. I am so proud so worked through it to the end.







Social Studies: We read about Japan. Kingston says, "We read about Japan but me don't know what happened in there." Kennedy says, "We learned that Japan, they closed their island so no one could leave the island and no one could come in the island. They made it so no one could trade in, except the Dutch. They made a special island for them to land on and only let them bring in one trading ship a year. In China there was the Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty was a dynasty that didn't go forever. These guys in the south came and destroyed it. Before they got there there was a plague. They got there and there was no guards guarding the gate. They cautiously opened the doors and there was no army ready to attack there. The king hung in his own dystasty and the south people won. The people that left the Han Dynasty left but the guys in the south still won. The king was on the throne since he was 7. He had an idea. There was more Han people than this south people. He was worried about ruling such a big country. So he said that you are free, you aren't captive anymore. But he did it in the wrong way. He made the people pay less taxes. So China was becoming rich and Japan was kind of becoming rich." We watched a Mystery Doug video about how money is made and saw what money in different countries looks like. Kingston would put an elephant on his money and Kennedy would put Abraham Lincoln and Joseph Smith on her money.

Science: We made volcanoes from baking soda and vinegar. Kingston says, "We made volcanoes with cups. We put the stuff in and it overflowed. And we had to clean it up with a paper towel." Kennedy says, "Orion is a winter consellation." They watched a bunch of Mystery Science video lessons. Kingston says, "In the hottest days it (the sun) gets higher. In the cooler days it's shorter (lower in the sky)." Kingston says, "My favorite video is the wildfire one and the volcano. You can also play with lava in that video. And if one volcano erupts you can even stand on it. You just have to stand away from it." Kennedy says, "In my magnet video, I learned that magnets repel, attract, and they also don't have to be touching. You can put a magnet on the top of the table and use a magnet on the bottom of the table and you can move the magnets on the top."

Tech/Trep: We did Lego challenge cards. Kingston's was to build something symmetrical. "I made a square. You just put a line down the middle and it's the same on both sides." Kennedy tried building a pyramid. "So we made a pyramid out Lego stairs. And we had to do it four times. I had a hard time so my mom had to help me when things didn't work out."







Elective: Kennedy helped her dad work on the car. Kingston shoveled snow. Kingston learned how to tend a fire using bellows. We decorated graham cracker cookies. Kingston worked a lot on cutting and gluing paper in an art project. Kingston says, "I made an art project. Me put the sun on white paper and the house on green paper. Then the tree on green paper. And me drew animals." Kennedy did home ec this week and helped take care of the house when Mom was sick Wednesday. Kennedy says, "My mom printed off a craft and it was making your own Christmas tree. I cut it out and colored it. Each day I put an ornament on the tree."
