Jan 11-18

Language Arts: Kennedy did some cursive tracing copywork. We read some picture books. We are also finished reading Prince Caspian. Kennedy wrote and then shared her poem with the family. Kingston did too. Kingston read Brown Bear, Brown Bear on his own. We finished our reading log for the library Winter Reading program.

A poem by Kennedy:
If you eat your ice then you don't get any rice.
If you eat your rice you don't get any mice.
If you eat your mice then you don't get any ice.

Kingston:
If you make a snowflake then you don't get any bowflakes.
If you make a bowflake you won't get any soflakes. 
If you make a soflake then you don't get any coldflakes.

Math: We rolled a snow dice and graphed and tallied our results. Then Kennedy did some math pages with the results. We watched Peg+Cat and learned about fractions and one more/less. Kennedy says, "Every whole there's a half in it. We made a paper die and it has some pictures on it. I did a tally chart and my little brother did a bar graph. And the snow angel won." Kingston says, "A half is one half of a whole pizza. The snow angel had the most and the gloves had the least on the dice." Kingston used tangrams to make a ship on the ocean to go along with a book we read.

Social Studies: We took a virtual tour of the Idaho Capitol building. We colored pictures of the Idaho seal. Kennedy says, "I learned that there's a fifth floor and you can go all the way up to the railing. And before that you can look all the way down." We also read in Story of the World.

Science: We watched Wild Kratts. Kennedy says, "I learned about a wolf pack. There was a cougar and they ran away to a new home so they wouldn't endanger the little ones." Kingston says, "It was about wolves. Wolves can run all day with like no rest. That's what me learned."

Tech/Trep: We finally finished putting together the 3D printer! We picked some free designs to download for the printer. Kingston did civil engineering with his train tracks. Kennedy and Kingston built a droid. Kennedy had to rebuild compenents multiple times to get the gears to line up. But she persevered and didn't give up. It probably took her close to 1.5 hours. Kennedy says, "We looked at earrings and legos that we can print with the 3D printer. I helped my little brother made a gear robot. It was really frustrating. I tried it out after I put it together. It didn't work. The gears didn't line up so I had to redo everything. I learned to follow the instructions and not just put them together. I did follow the instructions but just didn't put them in the right spot."

Elective: We went sledding. There was a jump. We play different instruments. Kingston says, "We have some musical instruments and me play lots of them. My favorite was the flute." Kennedy says, "My favorite instrument is we have a big guitar. I wrote a song. It's about the alphabet. I read the words from a wooden book we have and I play the guitar when I sing."
