Language Arts: Kennedy read a lot of small chapter books. One was Encyclopedia Brown. She also played Wordscapes. Kennedy says, "The Encyclopedia Brown books have two parts. So I have to have two bookmarks. One marks where I am in the story and the other is for the answer in the back. I read two Encyclopedia Brown books." She also read a Garfield graphic novel. Kennedy and Kingston did scripture copywork. Kingston learned about putting finger spaces between words. "I put the word and then put my finger down to make sure there is a finger space. But I can just leave a space, not a finger space." Kennedy then read her verse aloud and taught us what it means to her. She tied in what the scripture taught her to things she is learning from Story of the World. Kingston listened to an audiobook and we read and discussed a poem (Day 7 on First Grade in Easy Peasy Homeschool).
Math: Kingston did Pattern Maker on ABCya. Kennedy read Life of Fred: Cats. We did addition and multiplication problems aloud. They played Crazy 8s.
Social Studies: We played a church history timeline game. Kennedy says, "We are reading in Story of the World about people who read about revolutions. When they read it inspires them to start a revolution. But don't start a revolution if you're going to just kill a bunch of people. Be inspired by good books."
Science: We watched Popular Mechanics for Kids. We took care of chickens, ducks, and geese. We learned that birds' ears are small holes behind their eyes.
Tech/Trep: Kennedy helped build a pen for the birds. Kingston built with train tracks, legos, and magnets. Kennedy learned how to send a text message. Kennedy is using Revit to make a floorplan of her grandparent's restaurant. Kingston used Revit to make his own buildings.
Elective: This month we have done some Home Ec projects for elective. This week we pulled up carpet. Kennedy and Kingston helped pull up staples, roll up carpet, and vacuum the debris. They also helped trim trees and stack branches. Kennedy taught Kingston to do tendu en croix in ballet. The kids played with their friend Hunter on the trampoline. The kids did art. They also used stencils.
