Dec 21-Jan 3

Language Arts: Kennedy spelled words with magnetic letters. Kennedy wrote a letter to her cousin. Kenendy wrote thank you notes for Christmas presents. She learned how to write a friendly letter. Kingston plays Teach Your Monster to Read in the evenings. Kennedy spelled words with Banangram tiles. We read a lot of Blaze books and other books on Freetime. Math: Kennedy played with an abacus. She used it to count up to quintillion. She also figured out how to add two digit numbers. She also showed large numbers 0-1 million. We played Rail Wreck. It teaches strategy and sorting. We also played 1st and Goal. It's a football game that teaches adding and subtracting and strategy. We played Santorini, a strategy game. Social Studies: We read in Story of the World . We read about Charles I and Oliver Cromwell in England. We also played Santorini which taught us the names of some Greek gods. Kennedy looked at a map to see where Jesus was born....

Dec 14-20

Language Arts: We read some Christmas stories and poems. Kennedy copied one of her favorites in her sketchbook. "I liked the poem that's called A Child is Born . I wrote it down and I wrote it in my tiniest words as possible." We read A Little Match Girl  and I (Mom) commented that it was a sad story. But Kingston said, "No, it's a happy story." Kennedy said, "It's happy because she gets to be with her grandmother again." Kennedy typed up the words to a song. We revised it to type one line of the song on one line and added correct punctuation and capitalization. Kennedy did the ISAT Interim test (ICA both Math and ELA). Kingston plays Teach Your Monster to Read app and learned the "ch" and "sh" sounds. Math: Kennedy did the ICA Math Test. Both Kennedy and Kingston did a lesson online about fractions. Language Arts: Kennedy read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing . Kingston did a sight words page. "Us made a Christmas tree coloring page. There was words on them and me guess the word and used color dabbers to color the words." Kennedy learned what mutilated means. "Mutilated means destroyed." We read Kari, the Elephant  together. Kingston played a farm consonant blend game. Kennedy says, "I read Boss of Lunch  and Toothless Wonder , which are Junie B. Jones. So in Toothless Wonder one of his classmates says that his uncle Lou is missing his teeth. But he has one so he can still bit an apple. She wonders if she loses all her teeth if she will look like Uncle Lou but she finds out that she doesn't look like that." Kennedy did a practice ISAT ELA Performance task (writing). I was surprised that she got through it without whining. Math: We did Lego graphing papers. Kennedy says, "I colored a graphing chart and we used Legos to use and do the ...
