May 27-31

Language Arts: Kennedy gave an oral book report about Double Digit club book. Kingston wrote "birthday" on the whiteboard. We listened to more of Swiss Family Robinson . Kennedy read two books in one day and started a third. She gave an oral book report about Danny Champion of the World  and also Being Teddy Roosevelt . Math: At lunch we discussed what double digits are. We talked about birthdays and ages, days of the week, months, years. We played Feast and Famine (includes lots of counting and calculations and money). Kennedy is reading Life of Fred: Dogs. Social Studies: We are reading A Child's History of the World  and learned about earth's creation and early humans and cave people. We played Feast and Famine, an ancient Egypt game. Science: Kennedy helped Mom plant fruit trees. We learned that scientists learn by observing the world. We spent lots of time outside with water and nature. We took a nature hike to Mesa Falls. May 17-26 Legoland Vacation

Language Arts: We listened to Pillar of Light  and The Phantom Tollbooth  on our road trip. Kennedy read a lot of Encyclopedia Brown books. Math: Social Studies: We looked at maps to navigate on our road trip. We looked at replicas of cities and monuments. Science: We learned about physics and roller coasters. We went on a nature hike. We found and held frogs. We fed ponies and turtles and dogs. We went to the zoo and learned about all sorts of animals and fish. We learned about the ocean and waves. Tech/Trep: We built things out of Legos. We talked about business and profits, looking at income versus expenses.  Kingston built sand castles and sand cities. Elective: We hung hammocks. We did a lot of walking. Kennedy went boogie boarding. We played on a playground.

May 10-16

Language Arts: Kennedy wrote invitations for our neighbors. She is reading an Encyclopedia Brown book again. Kennedy played Wordscapes. We listened to Swiss Family Robinson audiobook. Kingston wrote the names of countries. Math: We did measuring worksheets. We talked about inches vs centimeters. We learned how to use and read rulers. Social Studies: We are reading Story of the World. We learned about New Zealand. We read about the Gold Rush. We finished the third volume of Story of the World! We found countries in Europe and labeled them on a map. Science: Kennedy used light refraction to shine lights off the surface of her tablet and onto walls and ceilings. We watched Mystery Science and learned why we have eyebrows. We read about horses. Tech/Trep: Kingston and Kennedy built more on their houses in Scyscraper. Kingston built with Legos. May 3-9

Language Arts: Kennedy is reading the fourth Harry Potter book. Kingston played with word tiles and made sentences. We talked about how the different colors were different parts of speech (mostly). We are reading books aloud as a family. They wrote "Happy Mom's Day" on cards. Kennedy wrote letters to her aunts. Kingston played Wordscape. Math: Kingston played a Thomas the Train math game. Kennedy did multiplication to find out how much three binders cost at $1 each. Kennedy read a chapter about area using unit squares and did 10 area problems. Then we rolled dice and made area buildings of the size we rolled. Kennedy learned the finger trick for multiplying by nine. Social Studies: We read about Nat Turner's Revolt. We are reading a book about Sacajawea. We read about the Opium war between China and Britain.We read about the Mexican-American War and the Alamo. Science: We watched our birds.
