Nov 26-29

Language Arts: Kingston is still reading what he can in his Cat in the Hat book. We are reading aloud The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place Book 1: The Mysterious Howling . Kennedy did a notebooking page/book report. She liked the Moon Poem that Beowulf composed. Kennedy is also reading some Christmas stories. She read some picture books at the library. Kingston did some sight word worksheets. Kingston began reading a Planes  book. We watched the LeapFrog Letter Factory video to review phonics. Math: We did some color-by-number pages. Kennedy started a subtraction color-by-number page. She used marbles to solve the subtraction problems. Kingston played with Dominoes. We watched Math Antics videos again. We learned about perimeter and area and the importance of units. Social Studies: We read in Story of the World. This week was about the Persian empire. There were 10 empires in that country. Nov 16-22

Language Arts: Kennedy and Kingston spent time reading/listening to books on Epic. Kingston listened to Brown Bear  by Eric Carle. He also is reading more on his own. He read a Cat in the Hat book and for a few pages just read words he knew but would sometimes ask me what a word was that he didn't know. Kennedy is reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing . Kennedy and Kingston wrote down things they were thankful for.  (Kingston)  (Kennedy) Math: Kingston counted marbles. Kingston counted to 120. Kennedy and Kingston did a quadrilateral game on Starfall. Kingston practiced telling time with a clock. Kennedy says, "3+4=7." Social Studies: We finished reading about Queen Nzinga of Ndomba in Africa and how she fought for freedom. We watched more Liberty Kids. Science: We watched Dino Dana and learned about dinosaurs. We read about granite in our Rocks book. Tech/Trep: Kingston built a Cat-in-the-Hat marble track. Kingston also built bridges with Cat in...

Nov 9-15

Language Arts: Kennedy read a book to her baby brother and sister. Kingston read another paragraph in a chapter book. Kennedy worked on handwriting. We started reading The Horse and His Boy . We watched The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe  and compared it to the book, since we finished it last week. Math: Kingston played a subtraction balloon game. Kingston and Kennedy used tangrams to make shapes. We watched some math antics videos about area, perimeter, circles, and probability. Social Studies: We read about slavery in the colonies and tobacco. We read about where slaves come from. We looked on the globe at why it's called the Triangular Trade. Science: We read about erosion by water. When asked why water goes faster in mountains than valleys, Kingston said, "because it is more down" and showed with gestures what he meant. Language Arts: Kingston read the first page of a Boxcar Children book with Mom. Kennedy is also reading Boxcar Children books. Both also did the IRI reading test online. Kennedy did some spelling games on ABCya.com. Kingston played a word blend game on ABCya.com. He is learning -ing words in our books. Math: They played math games. The treefrog game teaches fractions. The fuzz buzz game teaches sorting, counting and comparing numbers. There is another fuzz buzz game that requires problem-solving and thinking as they try to match the pattern given. Social Studies: We read in Story of the World  about the pilgrims, the Mayflower, and Plymouth Plantation colony. We also read about New Netherland that becomes New York. Science: A deer walked through our street and we talked about why a deer would be here. We read/learned about the formation of the earth's crust by volcanoes. Tech/Trep: Kennedy taught Kingston to play Roblox. Kingston loves making mountains and tunnels. ...
