Language Arts: Kennedy is reading the 7th and 5th  Harry Potter books again. Kennedy wrote a story about a dragon and unicorn and monster. "The monster is the unicorn's assistant," she says. Kingston played sight word bingo. Kingston read a tiger book on Epic. Math: While playing Santorini we worked on strategy. Kingston did some math worksheets. We finished Odd Tod and did some addition and subtraction. We discussed "times 2," halves, and double. Kingston says, "Half of four is two. Half of two is one. Two tens is 20" Kennedy says, "Half of six is three. What is two twelves?" Then I explained that since twelve is ten and two, when we double those (20 and 4) we can find the answer is 24. Social Studies: We read about the end of the slave trade. We listened to The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. We played Santorini. Apr 19-25

Language Arts: Kennedy read a lot of small chapter books. One was Encyclopedia Brown. She also played Wordscapes. Kennedy says, "The Encyclopedia Brown books have two parts. So I have to have two bookmarks. One marks where I am in the story and the other is for the answer in the back. I read two Encyclopedia Brown books." She also read a Garfield graphic novel. Kennedy and Kingston did scripture copywork. Kingston learned about putting finger spaces between words. "I put the word and then put my finger down to make sure there is a finger space. But I can just leave a space, not a finger space." Kennedy then read her verse aloud and taught us what it means to her. She tied in what the scripture taught her to things she is learning from Story of the World. Language Arts: We played bananagrams. We played Wordscapes. Math: We did 2 times tables worksheet. We did area and perimeter worksheets. Kennedy did a place value worksheet. Kingston did an "odds" worksheet. Social Studies: We read about Napoleon. Kennedy says, "He had to live on a tiny island. Napoleon got captured and got sent to a smaller island." We talked about what we would need to live on an island and what rules we would make for our island. Kennedy did a geography worksheet labeling countries using a globe. Science: We took a Chick Tour at Cal-Ranch. We learned all about chicks, ducks, turkeys, and geese. We decided to get some ducks, chicks, and geese to raise. We had to buy a lamp, food, and feeders. The kids learned how to hold them properly, how to feed them, give them water, clean their bedding, and about keeping them warm. We visited a nursery to look at plants. Language Arts: Kennedy and Kingston made up riddles. Kennedy read some Junie B.Jones books. She read Freddy and the French Fries. We finished reading aloud Family Courageous. We learned fore and four are homophone and learned about root words. Kingston is reading Ninjas at Night . Kennedy says, "The Junie B. Jones book I read is about Hawaii. Her teacher gave her a camera and a photo journal so she could show the class when she got back what she did. She rode an airplane to get there. She went on a nature hike with her parents. She swimmed in the swimming pool and went snorkeling." Kennedy practiced writing fancy with her dad. Math: Kennedy says, "Four halves is two wholes. And four wholes make eight halves." Kingston says, "Half of a half is a quarter." We did math with blocks (counting, patterns). Kingston did some math on Easy Peasy Homeschool. He practiced Evens and Odds. Social Studies: We watched Schoolhouse Rock and learned the preamble....

Mar 29- April 4

Language Arts: Kennedy finished reading the last Harry Potter book. She says, "I finally got to the Deathly Hallows chapter. They are at Luna's house but Luna was taken. Peeves made up a song at the end. I forgot Peeves was there." Kingston wrote a title on his picture, "The Soldier." Kingston read Sometimes  and Bears in the Night . Kennedy took the ISAT ELA test. Kennedy typed an email to a friend. Kennedy and Kingston learned about doing reports and research. Using what she learned, Kennedy researched what bats look like and drew her findings. Then she did a researched presentation on Lions . Kingston says, "Catfish has two syllables. Kes has one syllable." Kingston made a research presentation about tigers , birds , and fishes . Kennedy read and listened to some books on Epic. Math: We played Ticket to Ride, which involves counting and math.
